Virtual South By Five

Under the guise of The Run Bible, in 2019, Alex launched South By Five. A series of six 5km races inspired by Glasgow’s iconic Southside Six race.

It had hills, mud a-plenty and a rubber duck or two. Tears, smiles and laughter and song! You, the runners, loved it. We couldn’t wait to bring it back to you in 2020…..

When Acorn Trails this year, South By Five came too. As an autumn/winter event, we are more than sure we will get to host the series later this year.

In the meantime, we are offering up a virtual version..

What is it?

Some of you may remember a few of the routes. They are a bit convoluted in places, and potentially a bit hard to follow without course marking and our hi-viz heroes offering a guiding arm, and some encouragement.

With the Virtual Sx5 the aim is to complete a 5k run in each of the six Glasgow parks within the month of March. Do them all in one day if you wish!

Any 5k route, as long as it is within the park.

Should you wish to follow the original Sx5 routes the link for the gpx files are below:

How much is it?

It is free! We like the idea of the challenge and hope you do too.

Sign up via Entry Central. There will be optional extras available during the sign-up process.

The event will be supporting two great charities – the Emma Cameron Foundation and SAMH. Again, participants will be given the option to donate during the sign-up process.

After I run, then what?

Send the details through to sx5@acorntrails.run – ideally a link or screenshot of your chosen tracking facility (Strava, Garmin, MapMyRun etc). If you like to take photos whilst you run, please feel free to share them with us. They may get used on our social media feeds, and/or the post event report.

If you are going to include your 5k as part of a longer run, please can you stop your watch and restart it again for your Sx5 activity – makes it much easier at Acorn HQ to check the submissions. Or use Strava’s split tool after you upload.

Remember to observe all the latest government guidance and laws regarding exercise and mixing with other people whilst taking part in our event.
