Yellow is the new black
Course marking on Saturday was windy! We left Stranraer and headed south towards the start in Sandhead. Signage was strapped in with a wee wing and a prayer that it would last to the race start! The beach at Luce Bay was stunning, the sun shone, we met our tail runner and we got pebble dashed! Streams of sand slivered over the beach round and about us. Beautiful! And some hilarity with a blow away […]
Hilly and hot – RGTR ’24 report and results
“Hilly and hot”, not exactly how we advertised this event. Especially the hot bit. You can’t really advertise an event in Scotland as hot. But with the thermometer tipping over 20° before the race finished, I think it’s safe enough to call it hot. For Scotland. Now hilly is as relative as hot! If you spend your time running along the Clyde Walkway, Rouken Glen would definitely be called hilly. The race does take in […]
Toot Suite
Toota-Linn 2024 – report and results We’ve done Toota-Linn before. Not as Acorn Trails, but we rallied Glasgow South Road Runners into creating an event for the, now defunct Tour of Clydeside, for which Alex helped organise alongside it’s mastermind Robert Rogerson. The Kirkintilloch Olympian legend was Alex’s inspiration to stepping into the world of race organiser. Lots to thank him for! The original Toota-Linn in 2019 is marked in Linn Park as part of […]

Linn Park Trail Race report and results 2024
Pigs in sh*t Everyone thought our trail race in Pollok Park last month was a bit muddy. Linn Park got wind of this and said “hold my beer….”! The Linn Park Trail Race 2024 edition had enough mud to keep a team of pigs happy! By the time the runners crossed the finish line some of them resembled the proverbial pig! Smiles all round. Recent levels of rainfall meant even the dry bits of the […]
Pollok Park Trail Race event report
Pollok Park Trail Races What a great finish line. Tree lined, daffodil strewn, and downhill toward the gates and splendour of grade ‘A’ listed, Pollok House. All the runners at the Pollok Park Trail Races particularly enjoyed this bit! The preceding bit generated mixed feelings! Our hi-viz hero, Ann-Marie recorded several F-words and a couple of C-bombs, as she gleefully (by her own admission maybe a bit over exuberantly!) directed already weary legs up the […]
The Last One – Queens Park Sx5

Here’s some numbers to crunch: 193 folk entered at least one event 171 different runners took part in a least one race 27 finished all 6 events and are Series completers An additional 35 are also Series completers having finished 5 of 6. Over 200 hours of volunteer time that helped the series be the success it is. 50 trees purchased to be planted in the […]
The Cancelled One! – Bellahouston Park
This phoenix didn’t rise from the flames. We rose from the ice and freezing temperatures of the scheduled Bellahouston date, to run on another perfect running morning. We made every effort to ensure this race went ahead this time (not that we don’t usually 😏). With time running out on the series, there was no scope to squeeze it into any other date. We were out on Saturday evening with the newly christened “Fraz” […]
South By Five – Pollok Park – The Muddy One
Rain on parade I think that was a first for Acorn Trails. It rained during the race. Certainly a first for South By Five. We’ve had weather before, after and during but never proper rain during a Sx5 race. Unless it’s just my rainbow tinted glasses. Of course rain on our parade does not perturb us. It just adds to the mud. Although between the damp weather and busy time of year, it seems quite […]
South By Five 3 – Rx5 The Meadow
The race that nearly never was! A good flurry of snow overnight on Friday meant a fun day of sledging in the park on Saturday. That same snow though by Sunday morning was compacted into a route full of potential hazards. Of particular concern was the long tarmac stretch and the waterfall bridge. Both these sections scraped past the early morning course inspection with a sigh of relief. The conditions weren’t perfect and there would […]
