Absolutely Febulous – InterCity

InterCity

Absolutely Febulous got off to a racing start, with our virtual Edinburgh to Glasgow Relay challenge, InterCity.

Racing snakes, mud hogs, and hill lovers alike took off from the start line in “Edinburgh” and headed west towards the setting sun of “Glasgow”.

By the end of the week competitors had completed over 1000km between them (997km, but two did not report in, so we’ll use poetic license and assume they completed 3km between them!). Not happy with getting good metres on the clock – I work in metric – but the participants massed over 7000m of ascent. Most likely nearer 8000m but 4 runners had unaccountable elevation gain when I was snooping about.

We chose this event, to follow on from January’s virtual event, the Duncan Macfarlane VIRTUAL. The Edinburgh to Glasgow Relays was one of Dunky’s favourite events. Having finished second twice in 1949, Duncan was in the Victoria Park team in 1950 that won. VP went on to win 6 of the next 8 events dominating the 1950s over close rivals Shettleston.

Speaking of winning…

All our finishers for InterCity had their names included in the prize draw for a £100 voucher for Migo Sports. And the winner is…..

Moira Paterson, Kirkintilloch Olympians.

Once again well don to all who took part in InterCity. We look forward to seeing you in the hills for week 2, Love Lomond, a challenge of running 974m of ascent in one week. Still time to enter

Remember to share your photos and tell us about your progress on the Acorn Trails social media platforms. We love to see your progress, as do your fellow runners. It’s a virtual event, so keep up that race camaraderie virtually!

And, as a last note, please do adhere to the current Scottish Government guidance and regulations around the pandemic. This currently means you can only exercise with one other adult. We don’t want to see anyone breaking the law.
