Updates

Challenge 21

We’re now entering our 4th month of this year long challenge. Runners have set themselves a variety of goals. With month 3 updates submitted we’ve picked a name from the hat, and Andy Brighouse is the lucky winner of a Runderbox.

Don’t forget to submit your monthly progress to challenge21@acorntrails.run to be in with a chance to win. Doesn’t matter if you are on target or not – get those progress reports submitted!

Clyde Stride Ultra Marathon

The ballot was held in March, with payments on hold until we get a confirmation of race go-ahead. With recent announcements this is looking increasingly likely for a race on 24th July. Successful ballot entrants will receive an invite to payment when we’re ready to proceed to this step. Don’t worry we will give you plenty of notice.

Virtual South By Five

This was a great hit with Glasgow based participants. Running 5k in each of the six parks of the actual South By Five (and South Side Six) event. A full report will be on the website and social media soon. For those that ordered event merchandise, we’re just awaiting the delivery from the supplier and we’ll get this out to you.

Virtual Migo Mile

February and March brought us new runnings of the Migo Mile – still virtual at this stage, but we’re hoping to bring you “real” events soon. The latest race report is on the website at https://acorntrails.run/2021/migo-mile-for-march/

New Events

Virtual John Muir Way

The virtual challenge for April has captured the imagination! 80% sold out, there is still time to get an entry in. The challenge is to run the distance of the John Muir Way during the month – that’s 134miles or 215km if you prefer. It is only £3 to enter – part of its popular appeal!

Five For Fibro

This event kicks in for May, but never too early to enter. An easy 5k, choose your own course, maybe your favourite parkrun course? This is one is a fiver, with 50% of the entry fee going to support the work of More Than Fibro and the work they do with the sufferers of fibromyalgia.

There’s also a “Friendly” option for this event to get those onboard for who running may not be their thing. Pick a different activity, and make that “Five” your own – 5 friends, 5 miles, 5 pubs or 5 cakes! The options are endless!

Mull of Galloway Trail events

This was scheduled for June, but got bumped to 18th September for all those obvious reasons. We hope events will be back in June but the scope and location of these events made the change necessary.

Entries are now open for the rescheduled date. At the time of writing there is just 11 places for the Marathon, and about 40 for the Sandhead 10 miles, and the Fun Run and Walk (these two events share a participant “pot”)

Acorn Running Club

We launched our “loyalty” club, which brings with it a host of benefits – including priority entry for future events, a free buff and a free personalised tshirt! At only £15 for a year, its great value! More details at www.entrycentral.com/acornrunningclub

Other events

While the restrictions are lifting on paper, there is still restrictions in place, and a reluctance of land owners to grant permission at this stage. We’re working closely with some of those landowners, and hope to bring you some small scale, no fuss, low key events in June, and hopefully the end of May. Keep an eye on our social media channels, and the next newsletter for additional details.

We’re also hoping to bring you some guided trail runs led by experience and qualified trail runners, in addition to some local park based coaching sessions. It’s all very busy her at Acorn HQ!

In the meantime, stay safe and enjoy the running!
