Sx5 Linn Park race report and results
Lx5 Seventy-seven of you returned to charge down the starting hill in Linn Park. Joined by another thirty four in their first series event of 2022, leaving this year’s South By Five the most popular yet. A brief shower as the marshals were deployed was the last of the rain, which had poured in the wee hours. This shower had registered runners huddling under the trees, eagerly awaiting the starting hooter. Mud and puddles were […]
Migo Mile For July
A Horrible Wee Race Another month, another Migo Mile – and a new tag line! It is well know that the 3K On The Green is known as “The best wee race in Scotland”. After today’s event, we’ve been dubbed “A horrible wee race”!! There was the addendum “But I loved it”. We’ll definitely take that – “A Horrible Wee Race That You’ll Love” – thanks Barry 🙂 For such a wee race we had […]
Sticky Hands Are Better
Sticky hands are better You often hear ultramarathons spoken about as “eating contests with a bit of running in between” but I don’t buy this. Certainly not for the “shorter” ultras…maybe under 50 miles or so. Sure, you need to keep fuelled and it’s good to have something you like, and indeed have “trialled”, but do you really need loads of food if it’s only (and I use that word purely in the context of […]
Five For Fibro
More Than Fibro A wee Facebook notification pinged up. Heather had tagged me in a discussion of someone looking to create a running event to promote a new charity. Acorn Trails has an ethos of supporting charity via our events, so I was instantly intrigued. I met Sharon on the Green in lockdown Glasgow to chat through her idea and learn more about her and More Than Fibro. A fledging organisation jumping through the hoops […]
Virtual South By Five report
I keep starting race reports with news on how time is flying! How can we be nearly halfway through April already? The good thing is that the quicker it flies, the sooner we’ll be restriction free and able to run trails wide and far! Virtual South By Five came and went in the blink of an eye! For March, in line with the then restrictions, we stayed at home except for exercise. And we encouraged […]
Absolutely Febulous – Short and Sweet
Short and Sweet Short and Sweet brings February and Absolutely Febulous to a close. For those that have completed the full month of challenges, I bet there has been a small sigh of relief. We hope you have had fun during the month, and that your speedy finish during Short and Sweet was not a desperate dash for the finish line! Some of you cleverly combined your Short and Sweet mile with the Migo Mile […]
Absolutely Febulous – Acorn Art
Acorn Art As far as a “race report” goes this Acorn Art one is pretty easy! We can let the pictures do the talking… Some folk submitted some real works of art, others……others tried hard. And that was the idea. Give it a go and see what you can come up with. We hope the participants enjoyed taking part as much as the audience enjoyed what we shared during the challenge across our social media. […]
Absolutely Febulous – Love Lomond
Love Lomond Week 2 of Absolutely Febulous was always going to be a bit of a tough challenge, as Windy would say, ‘for some not all’. Not having great local elevation would add to the challenge for some. Having completed their longest ever week of running in week 1, InterCity, of Absolutely Febulous would make the second week, Love Lomond, a challenge for others. The weather would also have a say in the number of […]
Absolutely Febulous – InterCity
InterCity Absolutely Febulous got off to a racing start, with our virtual Edinburgh to Glasgow Relay challenge, InterCity. Racing snakes, mud hogs, and hill lovers alike took off from the start line in “Edinburgh” and headed west towards the setting sun of “Glasgow”. By the end of the week competitors had completed over 1000km between them (997km, but two did not report in, so we’ll use poetic license and assume they completed 3km between them!). […]
